EDP COST CUTS

5 April 2002

Electricidade de Portugal (EDP) is expected to introduce a plan to cut costs in order to raise efficiency to the level of other European companies, such as its neighbouring Spanish distributors, by 2004. Areas which are likely to be involved include supply, external services and purchasing. Job cuts are also a possibility. The company has set up a unit called EDP Valor to centralise services in order to keep down costs in generation and distribution.
