Thailand’s Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will be the first state enterprise to undergo corporatisation this year, according to Suparut Kawatkul, the permanent secretary of the Finance Ministry. After corporatisation, Egat would become a public company wholly owned by the Ministry and a minority stake will be sold to the public by the third quarter of the year.
In a related move, the Energy Ministry plans to revamp old laws and add new ones related to the development of the energy industry. Twelve energy-related laws and bills will reportedly be overhauled and placed under the jurisdiction of the Energy Ministry and a new bill would introduced to put three existing government power agencies under the umbrella of a single Ministry.
