Egypt is to continue the development of its wind power industry through the construction of 250 MW of capacity on its east coast.
The country’s government has issued an invitation for pre-qualifications for the development of a major new wind farm on the Gulf of Suez. Egypt has already built two wind farms along the coast with a total combined capacity of 310 MW.
Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy says that it wants an experienced developer to construct a 250 MW plant and own and operate it for up to 25 years. The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) will buy the electricity generated by the plant under a long-term power purchase agreement.
Potential developers are invited to submit qualification documents by 21 July.
