The project will see steam turbines at the As Pontes (La Coruña), Compostilla (Ponferrada), Teruel, Litoral (Almería) and Los Barrios (Cádiz) plants upgraded. All the internal elements of the high and medium pressure turbines will be replaced in the process.
The work will get underway in July and last until 2010, extending the life of the turbines by roughly 25 years and improving efficiency by around 3%.
Turnkey contracts for the work have been awarded to three, un-named, turbine manufacturing companies.
