Enel Chile expands with new wind farm

7 January 2012

Enel Green Power is planning the construction of a 99 MW wind farm in the Antofagasta region of Chile after winning a concession in a recent tender.

The renewable energy firm participated in a tender through subsidiary Enel Chile and has obtained a concession of around 2600 ha of land for the wind farm.

The tender was held by Chile’s Ministry of National Assets and is a key part of the country’s plans to diversify its energy sources.

Enel says that it anticipates constructing 33 wind turbines with a total capacity of 99 MW in Taltal district, 1500 km north of Santiago. The facility would generate around 329 GWh/year of energy for the SIC Central Grid transmission system.

Enel is planning to carry out feasibility studies and an environmental impact assessment before proceeding with construction.
