Enel move on Belgian steel

23 March 2007

Major energy user Duferco is developing a 420 MW gas-fired combined-cycle plant and a 65 MW facility that will use waste furnace gas from the steel manufacturing process. The plants will be sited at the Marcinelle - Marchienne industrial site in Wallonia.

Enel favours the move as it plans to expand into Belgium as part of its strategy for Western Europe, and the project also envisages dedicated facilities for the sale of electricity.
