The Chilean government has awarded Enel Green Power the exclusive right to develop a wind farm site in the northern region of Antofagasta.

Enel Green Power says that the concession - won via public tender - allows it to develop up to 130 MW of capacity at the site, named Sierra Gorda Este.

"We are extremely pleased about such an accomplishment, as Chile represents for us a very important market with a solid group footprint and excellent growth opportunities," said Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green power. "With this project, we have covered close to 90 per cent of our planned wind development in the country during the 2013-2017 period."

The wind farm's load factor would be over 30 per cent and it would cover an area of 4800 ha, according to Enel Green Power.

Enel Green Power already operates 92 MW of hydropower capacity in Chile and is developing two wind farms there.
