Enercon accuses Vestas of patent infringement

19 August 2005

German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has launched legal proceedings against the world's biggest wind-turbine maker Vestas, for patent infringement.

The Danish group is accused of violating Enercon's patent concerning lightning protection of blades for wind turbines, although it rejects the allegations, saying it would investigate the matter and make no further comment until the end of September.

Vestas says that in the opinion of the management the group does not infringe third party patents, although has not yet had the opportunity to examine the writ. However, it is the immediate opinion that the claim made by Enercon is not lawful.
