Engie signs deal on French offshore wind farms

4 January 2019

French utility Engie and Spanish partner EDP Renovaveis (EDPR) have formed an alliance with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to build the French offshore wind farms of Dieppe-Le Tréport and Yeu-Noirmoutier.

The deal will see Sumitomo buy a 29.5 per cent equity stake in the two projects, both of which will have a capacity of 496 MW. Engie will remain the main shareholder and lead developer of the projects with a 31 per cent holding.

The wind farms are due to be commissioned in 2021, and will comprise sixty-two 8 MW turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
