Engie wins large solar contracts

17 December 2015

French electric utility Engie has won tenders to build 95.5 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in France.

Through its subsidiaries, Solairedirect, la Compagnie National du Rhône, La Compagnie du Vent and Futures Energies, Engie won the bidding for 14 PV projects.

Engie also said that it had recently secured bids to develop 230 MW of solar capacity in Brazil in a call for tender organised by Aneel, the country's energy regulatory agency.

In France, four of Engie's PV projects will use solar tracker equipment, while the remainder will use fixed PV panels. They will be built on non-agricultural land and will be commissioned before the end of 2017.

The tender was organised by the French Regulatory Commission (CRE). Engie said in a statement that the contract would strengthen its leading position in the French solar market, where it has already developed, constructed and operated 570 MW of capacity.

In Brazil, Engie secured the rights to build 230 MW of PV capacity and operate it for 20 years, starting in November 2018.
