E.On has officially started operations at the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm.
The 302 MW wind farm in the German North Sea has been exporting energy to the grid via the 690 MW HelWin2 grid link since 2015 and E.On has used an official opening ceremony in Hamburg to reiterate its commitment to offshore wind energy.
E.On CEO Johannes Teyssen said: "Every energy has its time, and the time for expanding offshore wind is definitely now. Offshore will be needed if we want to achieve the targets of the energy transition."
E.On would focus in particular on cutting the costs of renewable energy generation, Teyssen added.
E.On invested around €1 billion in Amrumbank West, which is located 35 km north of Helgoland and consists of 80 Siemens SWT 3.6 MW machines.
