15 June 2018

E.On has announced plans to build a 100 MW solar farm in Texas, USA. The German energy firm says that the project shows that the firm is “moving into new orders of magnitude” in the solar energy market. The project is the company’s first solar project in Texas, it added.

The solar farm, called West of Pecos, will be located in Reeves County, Texas, and will consist of 350 000 photovoltaic modules installed on an area of 270 hectares. E.On has signed a power purchase agreement with SK E&S, a South Korean energy company, for half the solar farm’s output for 20 years.

“West of the Pecos is our first solar project in Texas,” says Silvia Ortin, member of E.ON Climate & Renewables' Board of Management responsible for North America. “Our 20-year agreement with SK E&S confirms our competence to implement clean and reliable energy projects across all technologies.”

West of Pecos is extected to go on-line in 2020, E.On said.
