Designed to produce 23 GWh a year, the project marks the first commercial concentrating solar power plant in Europe. The so called PS10 project uses more than six hundred 120 m2 movable mirrors to concentrate solar radiation to the top of a 115 m tower, where a solar receiver and steam turbine are located.
Situated 25 km west of the city, the project cost €35 million, of which €5 million came from the European Union, and took 54 months to build. It is one of a series of planned similar developments that will see capacity total more than 300 MW by 2013.
