FERC investigation rules out MISO market manipulation

27 July 2005

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has ended a preliminary investigation into supply offers during the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO) market launch after offers exceeded reference price thresholds.

FERC ended the investigation on the grounds that bid offers examined were the result of market start-up and communications problems and did not represent wilful efforts to manipulate the new power market.

MISO formally launched its new competitive wholesale power market on 1 April, 2005.
