Floating wind farm update

23 June 2015

MHI reports that phase two of its experimental offshore floating wind farm project sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry since March 2012, is on schedule for completion later this year. The project participants are a consortium that also includes Marubeni (project integrator), the University of Tokyo (technical advisor), Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Nippon Steel, Sumitomo and Hitachi.
Assembly work on the first 7MW oil pressure drive-type wind turbine on the three-column semi-sub floating platform at Onahama port has been successfully completed and delivery of the platform to its test area is to start shortly. Assembly and setting of a 5MW downwind-type floating  wind turbines, and installation of mooring chains and anchors, is scheduled for July.
The next steps will involve completion of delivery of the 7MW plaform facility from Onahama, it's electrical connection to the undersea cable and mooring operation in the testing area, and if these steps are completed in Decmber this year the   start of operation of the power facilities can be envisaged. However the schedule will be dependent on the meteorological and seagoing conditions
Installation of the floating substation "Fukushima Kizuna" (by Hitachi) and the floating wind turbine "Fukushima Mirai" was accomplished in phase one.
