Foster Wheeler seals partnership in India

2 April 2009

Foster Wheeler is to expand its presence in the growing Indian power equipment market through an advanced technology licence agreement with BGR Boilers Private Limited. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Under their agreement, BGR, a leading EPC contractor, will manufacture Foster Wheeler-designed wall-fired subcritical and supercritical pulverised coal steam generators for the Indian market. The two companies have also agreed to co-operate on the development of new power projects in India over the next five years.

The agreement will allow Foster Wheeler to expand its presence in the Indian market, where demand for equipment is rising rapidly in line with electricity demand. It will also give BGR, an affiliate of BGR Energy Systems Limited, access to high quality advanced technology.

“BGR Energy is a leading EPC contractor in the power generation sector in India, and this partnership with Foster Wheeler to manufacture the full range of pulverised-coal boilers will increase the in-house contribution for our EPC projects and will enable us to offer a globally recognized quality product to the Indian customers,” said Mr. B. G. Raghupathy, chairman and managing director of BGR Energy Systems Limited.

Over the next five years, Foster Wheeler and BGR will co-operate on multiple prospective projects, with Foster Wheeler providing the engineering and design along with selected major components.
