Foster Wheeler says it is to play a part in a major programme to advance carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies by undertaking a study for the CO2 Capture Project (CCP).
The CCP is a partnership of seven of the world's major energy companies and has awarded Foster Wheeler's Global Engineering and Construction Group a contract to evaluate a range of carbon dioxide (CO2) capture scenarios.
The study will contribute to CCP's third phase of work (CCP3), which is a critical stage in preparing the ground for widespread deployment of CCS, says Foster Wheeler.
Under the contract, Foster Wheeler will study the application of CO2 post-combustion capture to scenarios in the refinery, natural gas power generation and in-situ extraction of bitumen industries. The study is expected to be completed at the end of the fourth quarter of 2010 with the production of a 'CO2 Capture Handbook' to be used by CCP participants for their use in pre-screening work on carbon capture projects.
The CCP partnership includes BP, Chevron, Eni, Petrobras and Shell.
