Four new CCGTs for Portugal

25 January 2005

Portugal’s government plans to see four new combined-cycle power plants licensed during 2005. Two of the plants will be located in Sines, southern Portugal, and the other two in the central town of Figueira da Foz. Each will have a capacity of 800 MW.

Seven proposals have been received for the construction projects from groups including Portuguese utility EdP, state-owned energy group Galpenergia and Spain’s Iberdrola and Gas Natural. The licence process should be finished by the middle of next month
