FP&L plans gas giant

Florida Power & Light Co (FP&L) has announced plans to develop a 2,200 MW gas-fired power plant in Palm Beach County, Florida, USA. The plant, which is expected to require an investment for some $1.2 billion, would consist of two 1,100 MW CCGT units is is expected to begin commercial operations around 2009 – 2010.

FPL is also adding new gas-fired combined cycle capacity at a number of existing plant sites. Indiantown in Martin County will begin generating an additional 800 MW when it is completed later this year. The company will also add 1,150 MW to its Turkey Point plant site near Florida City due in 2007.

FP&L is also planning to build two advanced technology coal-fired units in southwest St. Lucie County, which would be online around 2012 - 2013.
