French strike cuts output

20 January 2005

Striking French power workers slashed output by some 7,000 MW, according to France's biggest energy trade union CGT. Power production at five nuclear plants at Belleville, Chinon, Cruas, Flamanville and Paluel was cut and at the Gardanne, Hornaing and Lucy facilities, three thermal power plants with a combined total capacity of around 1,400 MW, production was stopped entirely. The 24 hour strike was called over pay, conditions and threatened privatisation.
