Fuel cell tests at 31 locations

3 August 2003

The NEF, an affiliate of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will install fuel cell systems at households and small retail outlets. It will test two types of fuel cells, one with a capacity of 1kWe, and another with a capacity of 5kWe. Four types of fuels - city gas, LPG, kerosene and naphtha - will be used to examine which fuel generates power most effectively, the NEF said.

Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries, Kurita Water Industries, and three other firms will supply fuel cell systems for the experiment, in addition to six companies that supplied such systems in the previous year's experiment carried out at 12 locations.
