Spanish wind company Gamesa has signed two contracts for the supply of 107 wind turbines in Brazil, including its first order for its new G114-2.0 MW turbine for low and medium wind speed sites. Alstom has also won a new contract in the country.

Gamesa's largest contract with Companhia de Energias Renováveis (CER) covers the manufacture, supply, transport, installation and commissioning of 83 G97-2.0 wind turbines, as well as the civil works for six wind farms in the Xique-Xique II complex in the state of Bahia.

These six projects - Assuruá I, Assuruá VI, Capoeiras I, Capoeiras II, Curral de Pedras III and Curral de Pedras IV - were winners of the auction A5 organized in Brazil in 2013.

A second contract for 48 MW has been signed with Eletrosul, a subsidiary of Brazil's national power company Eletrobras. It relates to the supply of 24 low/medium-speed wind turbines for the Coxilha Seca, Capão do Inglês e Galpões wind farms in the Cerro Chato complex in southern Brazil.

Gamesa says this is its first Brazilian order for the G114-2.0 MW turbine, its new model 'designed to yield more power at lower cost at low and medium wind speed sites.' Delivery of the WTGs is scheduled during 2014, with commissioning expected during the second half of 2015.

Alstom has also announced it will supply 127 wind turbines to Renova Energia for the 355.5 MW Umburanas wind complex in Bahia, under a separate contract worth EUR320 million. The order will comprise ECO 122 ECO110 and ECO 100 modules and is scheduled for delivery between January 2017 and January 2018, Alstom says.

To date Alstom has signed contracts for the equivalent of 2.5 GW of wind power capacity in Brazil. Gamesa has firm orders for almost 2 GW in Brazil.
