Gazprom backs privatised UES

In announcing its future strategic plans, Russian gas giant Gazprom has tipped its hand to show a very similar reform agenda to UES and has unveiled a solid intention to continue expanding its power generation assets.

However, while UES has found an unexpected and influential ally in its attempt to speed up energy reform, the Gazprom moves may actually have the opposite effect, according to warnings from some quarters.
