GE introduces uprated WTG

20 March 2014

GE has announced the availability of its 2.75-120 wind turbine, described as a 'smarter, more powerful turbine'. It is claimed to provide 5 % greater annual energy production than the existing 2.5-120 model that it is based on. It is available with various tower technologies, ranging between 85-139 metres, and optional energy storage. It is available with a steel, hybrid or space frame tower, depending on site conditions and bring wind power to new places across the continent. Cliff Harris, general manager of GE's renewable energy business in Europe.
Short-term or long-term battery based energy storage is available with the new unit. Short-term storage is integrated at the turbine level while long-term storage is centralised for the wind farm. These options, added to the tower options, enable the unit to be customised to a wide range of locations and duties.
GE has also made contracts for 110 MW of orders to supply eight of Germany's newest wind farms with a total of 44 of its 2.5-120 units.
