GE to supply 300 wind turbines for New York

20 February 2007

The contract, with Essex, Connecticut-based Noble Environmental Power, will see capacity in the state increased by some 450 MW, more than doubled the current level of wind generation.

The turbines will be installed on the second phases of the Bliss Windpark, located in Wyoming County in the west of the state and the Clinton Windpark, in Clinton County in northern New York.

All of the output from the projects is to be sold to the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) for dispatch through the state electricity grid.

Victor Abate, vice president of renewables for GE Energy said: “The state has set a goal to produce 25% of its energy from renewable sources, including wind, by the year 2013.”

Noble Environmental Power is majority-owned by J.P. Morgan partners. The company expects to be the largest wind producer in New York State by the end of 2007.
