GE Vernova has received an order from O2 Power Private Ltd to supply, install, and commission 36 units of its workhorse 2.7-132 onshore wind turbines for a 97 MW wind power project in Maharashtra, India. The project is intended to supply renewable energy to various industries and commercial establishments, and will contribute towards India’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The wind farm is targeted to be commissioned in a phased manner with full commissioning in the early phase of calendar year 2025. With this latest order, GE’s 2.7-132 wind turbines made in India have received over 3.5 GW+ of orders to-date.
The 2.7-132 wind turbine has proven to be the technology of choice for many customers in India owing, says GE, to its industry leading performance at India’s low wind speeds. GE Vernova is on track to add 1.2 GW in new installations during the current fiscal year, ending March 2024, which will take its cumulative install base to 5 GW and make it one of the largest wind turbine original equipment manufacturer suppliers in India. For the O2 Power project product design will take place primarily at GE’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru, blade manufacturing will take place in GE’s plants in Vadodara, with assembly at the multi-modal manufacturing facility in Pune.
