Gestamp Solar and 8minutenergy sign PPA

20 March 2014

Building of a 50 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in California is set to go ahead in 2015 after the project's developers signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

Gestamp Solar and 8minutenergy Renewables LLC have inked a 20-year PPA contract for the Midway solar farm in Imperial County. The site is expected to be operational and delivering energy to third parties in 2016, and to PG&E in 2020.

The solar power system for the Midway solar farm will include PV modules, related power electronics as well as an advanced tracking system that allows collectors to 'follow' the sun to maximise energy production.

The PPA requires approval from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
