A new GT26-based combined cycle power plant is expected to help Tunisia meet rapidly growing electricity demand in the south of the country.
Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG), Tunisia’s main electricity generator and distributor, has awarded Alstom a turnkey contract to build the 400 MW plant, which will be the first in the country to use GT26 technology.
The power plant will be constructed at Ghannouch, in the Gabes region, in southern Tunisia. Electricity demand is growing at six per cent per year in the country, and the plant will also help to maintain the equilibrium in power production between regions.
Under the EUR335 million contract, will supply a fully integrated turnkey power plant comprising a GT26 gas turbine, one heat recovery steam generator, one steam turbine, one turbogenerator and a DCS. The contracts also includes a 12-year operation support and maintenance agreement.
The new plant will be built on the site of an old thermal plant, allowing existing infrastructure to be used.
