New laws aimed at engendering liberalisation within the Greek power and gas markets are set to be proposed by the Greek Development Ministry.
The proposals, which are also designed to incorporate EU directives into national legislation, envisage the electricity market initially opening to competition this year with domestic consumers able to choose suppliers from July 2007.
The new framework is also expected to break up Greek natural gas monopoly Depa into two separate entities, with natural gas transport being transferred to a fully owned Depa subsidiary.
