Greece to liberalise gas and power markets

20 July 2005

New legislation to open gas and power markets to competition and formally transpose EU deregulation directives into Greek law are expected to be unveiled by the country’s Development Ministry.

The measure would allow large industrial or commercial consumers to choose electricity supplier from 2005 with smaller domestic consumers following in 2007. The new laws are also expected to see state-owned gas monopoly DEPA split into separate entities.
