The British government has given consent for the construction of a 1200 MW offshore wind farm.
East Anglia One is being developed by ScottishPower Renewables and Vattenfall and is the largest renewable energy project ever to have received planning consent in England and Wales.
It is also the first Round 3 wind project in England and Wales to gain consent.
Construction of the wind farm could start in 2017, with up to 240 wind turbines being installed across an area of 300 km2 in the southern North Sea. East Anglia One says it will "accelerate its contact with the supply chain and detailed negotiations will also take place to determine the Ports which could support the project".
The project design also includes up to three offshore collector stations, two offshore converter stations, up to four 73 km-long seabed export cables, onshore underground cables, and an onshore converter station.
The project partners have not yet made a final investment decision but say that the project's turbines could start delivering energy in 2019.
