High-power flexible solar panel developed

A team of scientists from South Korea’s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) claim to have developed the world’s most efficient flexible solar cell.

The development is expected to be significantly cheaper to manufacture and more efficient than conventional silicon cells, being made from titanium oxide, dyes and electrolytes sandwiched between two layers of plastic and stainless steel plates.

The new cell, which is only 0.4 mm thick, converts solar energy at nearly twice the efficiency of existing solar panels.
