E.ON expects to complete construction of the Humber Gateway offshore wind farm two months ahead of schedule. The final turbine at the 219 MW wind farm recently became operational and the project is in the final phase of construction, said the German utility.
Construction of Humber Gateway, which is located 8 km off the coast of Holderness, near Yorkshire began in 2012 and the first of its 73 turbines started operating in February 2015. E.ON will carry out reliability runs and final minor tasks on the wind farm before handing the facility over to its operational arm.
"The rapid completion of this project is an outstanding success," said E.ON Management Board member Bernhard Reutersberg. "E.ON is well on its way toward making offshore wind power even more competitive and reducing power-generation costs to less than €100/MWh. "We're superbly positioned for future auctions in relevant European markets."
Alongside Humber Gateway, E.ON is building the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. In May the company announced its decision to move forward with Rampion, a 400 MW project off the south coast of England.
