HVDC transmission line for Vancouver Island

26 May 2005

An HVDC transmission link has been proposed for linking the Northwest grid in the USA to the western Canadian grid.

Running from Vancouver Island’s Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, to Port Angeles in Washington, USA, the proposed $175 million Sea Breeze Pacific Juan de Fuca link would include two 550 MW submarine transmission cables in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The US Department of Energy (DoE) is now conducting an environmental impact statement following the feasibility study by regional power marketer and distributor the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) on behalf of project developers Sea Breeze Pacific Regional Transmission System Inc, a joint venture between Sea Breeze Power Corp and Boundless Energy.
