Hydro power station extension on High Rhine

5 May 2007

The run-of-the-river station will see the generator directly coupled to the horizontal turbine shaft and the entire generator housing submerged in the river. The new plant will begin operations by the end of 2009 and will bring the total output of the Albbruck-Dogern station to over 100 MW.

Following rehabilitation of the weir an additional powerhouse will be built in Switzerland on the left-hand bank of the river providing sufficient water flow in the 4 km blind arm of the Rhine. The project also comprises a fish ladder up to 15 m wide.

Rheinkraftwerk Albbruck-Dogern, majority owned by Germany’s RWE, placed the order which is worth some €20 million.
