Iberdrola buys wind capacity from Gamesa

12 January 2011

Iberdrola Renovables has brought its operational wind power capacity in Mexico up to 106 MW through the purchase of a 26 MW wind farm from Gamesa.

The Spain-based renewable energy company has bought the Bii Nee Stipa wind farm in the state of Oaxaca, a move that it says will cement its position at the “forefront of renewable development in Mexico. It already has the 80 MW La Ventosa wind farm and is currently building another - La Venta III - with 103 MW of capacity.

The Bii Nee Stipa facility is located on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, one of the windiest regions of the world. It consists of 31 Gamesa G52 wind turbines, each 65 m in height and capable of generating 850 kW.

All of Iberdrola's wind farms in Mexico will be based on Gamesa technology, further cementing the wind turbine manufacturer as its main international supplier
