Iberdrola commissions Algeria CCGT

4 November 2013

Iberdrola Ingeniería has announced it has completed commissioning of the 1200 MW Koudiet combined cycle power plant in Algeria.

The engineering subsidiary of Spanish energy firm Iberdrola says that it switched on the third unit of the plant, which it built in partnership with GE.

The project is one of the most complex of its kind ever undertaken by Iberdrola Ingeniería in terms of scale, security and logistics, the company said in a statement.

Iberdrola and GE were awarded the €1470 million contract to build the Koudiet plant by SKD, a corporation set up by Algerian energy firms Sonelgaz and Sonatrach. Koudiet consists of three 400 MW units and will supply energy for nearly 4 million people in Algeria.
Commissioning of the project is a major step forward in Algeria's plans to boost electricity generation from natural gas.
