Gamesa Eólica is to continue supplying wind turbines to Iberdrola up to 2022 after signing a new agreement with the Spanish renewable energy giant.
The two companies have sealed a wind turbine supply and maintenance agreement that replaces one signed in 2008 and which establishes Gamesa as Iberdrola’s wind turbine manufacturer of choice.
The deal will also extend the two companies’ collaboration to offshore wind power, and establishes a new level of cooperation in maintenance services.
According to Iberdrola, the new agreement is “more appropriate for the current market situation”. It will see Iberdrola buy half of its wind turbines from Gamesa between 2013 and 2022, up to a maximum of 3800 MW.
Iberdrola will also award Gamesa a three-year contract to service 1748 MW of its turbines in Spain and Portugal, and will grant a one-year extension to a current maintenance contract on 2312 MW of wind turbines.
The two companies will embark on new areas of research in operation and maintenance aimed at enhancing wind turbine reliability and efficiency.
In July 2011 Iberdrola and Gamesa ended a strategic agreement covering wind farm development in Europe.
