Iberdrola’s engineering subsidiary Iberdrola Ingeniería y Construcción says that it has bolstered its position in the Latin America market by winning a tender to build transmission lines and substations in Mexico.
Under a contract worth $160 million awarded by Mexico’s CFE. Iberdrola Ingeniería will modernise and expand the electricity infrastructure in Veracruz and Chiapas provinces. The contract is the largest won by the company in Mexico.
Iberdrola Ingeniería will carry out the work over the next 18 months with project partners Elecnor and Eléctricas de Medellin. The project includes the construction of nine new electricity transmission lines with a total length of over 196 km and six substations with voltages of 400, 230 and 115 kV and a total capacity of 1175 MVA.
The Spanish company is already active in Latin America, with a project pipeline worth around EUR680 million. In Mexico, it is currently developing two other projects in the southeast: increasing the capacity of the Laguna Verde nuclear plant; and the construction of substations and electricity transmission lines in Veracruz and Oaxaca provinces.
