Power starved Indonesia, which saw blackouts affecting much of the population last month, is expected to issue tenders for eight power plants with a combined capacity of 3670 MW over the next year.
Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is expected to move quickly to issue the tenders for the projects, which will likely be built by private firms.
The projects to be tendered are expected to include some 1,200 MW of coal-fired capacity in central Java province, including 800 MW at the existing Paiton facility in East Java, 600 MW at Cirebon in West Java, 200 MW each in Bali and North Sumatra and 120 MW in East Kalimantan province Pasuruan in East Java, meanwhile, is also expected to be the location for a 500 MW gas-fired project.
The projects are expected to come onstream between 2009 to 2012.
