UK-based International Power has taken a major step forward in the development of a new power plant in Thailand with the successful completion of finance and the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA), and an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement.
Thai National Power 2, a new 120 MW gas-fired cogeneration project, will be located on a site adjacent to International Power’s existing 143 MW Thai National Power (TNP) gas-fired power plant and will be operational in 2012. It will help to meet Thailand’s growing demand for energy, says International Power.
The major part of the output from the new plant (90 MW) will be sold to the Energy Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a 25-year PPA, with the balance of up to 20 MW sold to industrial users. The £82 million project will be built by IHI/Jurong under a fixed-price, turnkey EPC contract.
The plant will be equipped with GE LM6000PF gas turbines.
