Japan orders solar modules for 231 MW plant

20 April 2015

Toyo Engineering has placed an order with Trina Solar for the supply of 116 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for the largest solar power project in Japan.

The 231 MW facility is being built in Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture on 260 ha of city land by Toyo and Shimizu Corporation. It will use around 446 000 pieces of Trina's TSM-260PC05A high efficiency modules and is expected to start operating in 2019.

Trina said that the order marked a milestone for the company in the Japanese market. "We believe that demand for clean and sustainable energy in Japan will continue to increase and that solar energy will play a key role in the growing diversification of the country's energy mix," said Zhiguo Shu, COO and President of Trina's module business. "Japan is a key market for us where we expect to further deepen our penetration."

The $1.1 billion Setouchi solar power plant is owned by GE Energy Financial Services, Kuni Umi Asset Management and Toyo Engineering.
