South Korean firm Korea East-West Power Co (EWP) has placed an order with an MHI-Marubeni consortium for the supply of two steam turbine-generator sets for a major new coal fired power plant in the country.
Units 9 and 10 of the Dangjin coal fired power complex will be Korea's first 1000 MW ultra-supercritical power generation units and also the largest coal-fired plants ever built in the country.
MHI and Marubeni will deliver the equipment from 2013, with MHI responsible for supplying the turbine generator sets and Marubeni for their transport and the supply of auxiliary equipment. MHI says that the order represents its first export of ultra-supercritical components exceeding 1000 MW.
Dangjin is located approximately 70 km southwest of Seoul and the new units will help to meet Korea's rapidly increasing demand for electricity.
