US based Krishnan & Associates has released an updated and detailed study on emerging trends in the Indian Power Generation Industry, analysing the past history, current state, and future scenarios of the Indian fossil-fuel fired power sector.
The government of India has embarked on an aggressive plan to increase power generation capacity. Key factors fueling India's power generation initiatives include the growing need for reliable and affordable energy, demand for electrification for the vast rural areas of the country, and increasing average household incomes.
The study - "Indian Power Generation Market Strategic Review & Forecast - 2010,” analyses the current electricity generation profile, generation capacity additions and boiler additions from a short-term and long-term perspective. Real-world bottlenecks impeding India's aggressive growth plans include equipment availability, investment limitations, and manpower availability. Actions undertaken by the Government of India to mitigate these issues are explored in this study. The study also examines environmental emission regulations that are planned to control pollutants resulting from growth in fossil-fuel fired power generation capacity. Nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SO2), particulate/VOC, and other hazardous air pollutants (HAP) regulatory limits are discussed. The Government of India's position on CO2 emissions is also highlighted.
