Lanco Infratech Ltd is planning a 720 MW combined cycle gas based power plant for a site at at Humnabad in Bidar district, Karnataka. The project is part of the company’s expansion plans in the power sector in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The plant will cost INR 2500 crore to build.
The state has given its approval to the project and a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Karnataka government for the plant, together with a solar photovoltaic project in the same area.
The company has also been allotted 50 acres at Humnabad for the site, which will hold two units of 360 MW each.
Lanco is already an investor in the thermal power sector in Karnataka. Its subsidiary, UPCL, is in the process of completing its 1200 MW thermal power project near Udupi in coastal Karnataka. The first of the two 600 MW units has been completed, wiht the second due for completion by end-October. The company has also announced a plan to build a 1320 MW facility at Udupi, its second in that location, and three solar PV plants, probably in the Gulbarga, Bellary and Raichur districts.
Completion of these projects will bring Lanco’s total installed capacity to 3490 MW.
