Indian engineering firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is building on its presence in the Middle East’s power equipment market with the winning of four major orders from three Gulf countries.
The orders are worth a combined $217.45 million (INR1044 crore) and are for the construction of substations in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. The projects will be executed by Electrical & Gulf Projects Operating Company, part of L&T’s construction division.
In Qatar, L&T has secured a $153.45 million EPC contract from Qatar Petroleum to build four substations at the Ras Laffan Industrial City. It has also won a $20 million order from Qatar’s Kahramaa for the construction of a 66/11 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substation at Education City, Doha.
L&T is already constructing five similar substations in Doha, says the firm.
In the UAE, L&T has won a $24 million order from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for the construction of one 132/11 kV GIS substation in Dubai.
L&T has also won a $20 million order from Oman Electricity & Transmission Company (OETC) for the construction of a 132/33 kV GIS substation at Nakhal Area, Oman.
