Last coal plant in New Jersey demolished

13 December 2022

The last remaining coal-fired power plant in the US state of New Jersey, Starwood Energy’s Logan PP, was demolished earlier this month as the state authorities move aggressively to adopt clean energy policies.

Starwood Energy has announced plans for a new $1 billion venture on the site, where batteries will be deployed to store power from renewable energy sources.

The 225 MW Logan plant is one of two former coal-fired plants that the company decided in March to shutter and tear down under an agreement with the state and a local utility. The other plant is the former Chambers Cogeneration Plant in Carneys Point, which has yet to be dismantled.

They were the last two coal-fired plants operating in the state until they closed three months ago. Both will now host battery storage projects.
