Alstom Hydro has won two contracts worth more than EUR100 million for equipment for two power plants in Ecuador and Venezuela.

The first contract, awarded to an Alstom-led consortium by the Ecuadorian state-owned power supplier Hidropaute, is for turnkey supply of electrical and hydro-mechanical equipment for the 162 MW new Mazar hydropower plant on Ecuador's Paute River. The contract is worth EUR 60 million with Alstom getting around EUR 23 million for the supply, erection, supervision and commissioning of two 100 MVA generators, control monitoring and instrumentation systems as well as hydro-mechanical equipment. The first unit is foreseen to be in commercial operation by April 2009.

The second contract, also valued at around euro 80 million, was awarded by C.V.G. Electrificacion del Caroni (Edelca), Venezuela's largest supplier of hydro power, for the refurbishment of four generating units at its Guri I power house, located in the city of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela.

Alstom's scope of supply covers the complete refurbishment of 4 x 400 MW Francis turbines and generators and associated hydro-mechanical equipment. The first unit is scheduled for commercial operation in the first quarter of 2009.
