Leading edge power station for Oz state

1 March 2005

The first gas-fired CCGT power station in Australia’s NSW is expected to come on line by January 2008 under plans unveiled by TXU. The A$325 million ($256 million) 400 MW station will be located on the site of an exisiting coal-fired station at Tallawarra in the Wollongong region. Final decisions on the design of the Tallawarra station will be made this year. It is expected to take about 30 months to build and is likely to commence in 2006.

A spokesperson for TXU is quoted as saying, "It is very important because this shows that gas-fired generation can succeed in NSW because it has been traditionally a very coal focused generation sector."
