Load factor takeovers planned for poor performers

12 April 2005

Indian power stations that operate at less than a 60% load factor could be managed by the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) or private sector companies like Tata Power Company Ltd (TPC) under new proposals unveiled by the Ministry of Power.

The national average load factor is 74% currently and the ministry has reportedly already identified some 16 stations that are operating at less than 60%. An estimated 5 GW of additional capacity could be made available by the proposed plant management outsourcing.
